This is the high visibility version of one of the all-around go-to dry flies for trout. Up there with the Parachute Adams, Elk Hair Caddis, Humpy, etc. The Griffith's Gnat is unique in that it imitates clusters of mating midges, therefore, even when size #26 insects are hatching, often times you will be rewarded by rising fish on a #18 - #22. While incredibly effective year-round, I think this pattern really shines in the winter, when there are no big bugs to compete for the fish's attention and trout are focused on midges all season long.
